I wanted to put out a quick post to show off a couple things I added to my World Cup Soccer ’94 pinball machine. Several months ago I purchased a new set of plastics. They were becoming hard to find so I’m glad I jumped at the chance to get them. I had several minor breaks in the old ones, and had half of one totally missing. It was a very hard-to-find piece. Add to those problems that all of the clear plastics really turned yellow over the years. I knew the only thing I’d be happy with was a full new set. I’ve been holding on to this kit for a long time waiting until I was ready to teardown the entire playfield for my new LED kit. As I mentioned in my last post, I bought a full LED kit and I installed both the kit and the plastics during Thanksgiving weekend. I’ll have a full write-up on the LED kit in the next few days.
The real eyesore was the old soccer ball. It was yellow, dirty, and had a big groove turned out of it by the loose plastic mounted in front of it. The plastic wasn’t installed correctly and cut a grove right into the ball like it was on a lathe. I picked up a new ball from Illinois Pinball, who became the official parts replacement company after Williams folded their pinball operations. They had a few balls left and sell them at a great price. I HIGHLY recommend them!
Here are a couple pics to show what I was working with:
Old ball vs. clean, bright, shiny new ball!
