I’m finally getting a start on a project I’ve been looking forward to for a very long time! My daughter Paige, who is a really big arcade gaming fan in her own right, wants to build a game with me. We’ve been talking about how fun it would be to do a project together and after seeing Disney’s Wreck it Ralph we decided to build a Fix it Felix, Jr. This game is the arcade game the movie was based on. It’s a fictional game that was made specifically for the movie. Thankfully, Disney created a real game and used it for marketing purposes. With enough research you can find everything you need to build your own. It’s a fun game and we’re big fans of the movie.
To start the project, we needed a good Nintendo cabinet to use to build the game. I had an old beat-up cabinet in my garage for a while now, ready for a project. The first thing we had to do was to put together a new base for the cabinet. Nintendo cabinets have rectangular wooded bases that usually are pretty beat up by now. I actually have four total Nintendo cabinets, and all but my restored Donkey Kong needed new bases. I went ahead with making four new bases, so they will all match properly and stand aligned properly. The four were all cut and put together, but we’re only finishing the first one to keep this project on track.
Painting the base black is the fun part of this piece.
Keep an eye out for more updates as we continue building this project over the summer!
