It’s been a LONG time since I’ve made a blog post here on my site. It’s been a busy year away from the Arcade Game Collecting Hobby! Unfortunately once I started putting off any posts, time flew and it’s now almost a year since my last post. A lot has happened in the past year regarding Classic Arcade Gaming. Lon McDonald, who rolled my Joust machine as #31 in his tour, has completed machine #99 and has a special event planned at the original Williams factory location in Chicago where he’ll roll the 100th machine. Also in the past year Twin Galaxies has been sold to new ownership. Disney released Wreck it Ralph, another movie that builds on the popularity of classic arcade gaming. Stern Pinball has released several new pinball machines, and Jersey Jack Pinball is nearing the release of their first game, The Wizard of Oz. What an amazing year for people that are interested in Arcade video gaming.
As far as my collection goes, I sold a few machines in the past year so I could fund the purchase of another pinball machine. I added Jurassic Park from Data East. It’s a fun machine themed after the first movie. In the coming months I plan to tear it apart and shop the playfield. I want this machine to look nice. The cabinet artwork could use some love, but I’m not sure how much I’ll invest in that. I’ll likely heavily clean it and touch up as many imperfections as I can. I don’t think I am going to sink in the cost of a full artwork set, given this machine isn’t the most valuable collectors piece.
I’m also planning to do a couple video game restorations this summer once the garage warms up. I will be doing not one but two Nintendo cabinets: Donkey Kong Jr. and Donkey Kong 2. I can’t wait!
I’ll be back soon with many more pictures and perhaps some updated arcade videos. Thanks for your interest in my site and I hope to have more for you soon!
